“It really becomes part of you”

Lester S.J.

Alright, well, I would have to say my “Aha moment” is whenever I do martial arts. Especially when we engage in the actual activity. We do drills, we are taught certain movements, when to do it and so forth. And, the thing that always intrigues me is…when I pull it off, in the heat of the moment, perfectly. Sometimes people say “hey, that’s exactly how it’s supposed to be,” and sometimes I wonder to myself: well, I don’t know, I don’t have any thought of it, it just so happens. That’s the one thing I take away as my “aha,” because, I’ve always been intrigued by this Zen notion of no-mindedness, where you do things to the point you’re not really thinking about it. But I think there’s more to that, and it’s not simply doing it to the point of…becoming…it really becomes part of you. And you just can’t put a rhyme or reason. No time to reflect on it. You just know you did it. There’s a phrase out there that says “I do not hit, but it hits all by itself.” And that has to be my “Aha moment.”
